What does #Gonski mean for teacher jobs?

Are you currently studying to be a teacher in Queensland?

Heard about the cuts to staffing in Queensland schools?

The landscape for work isn't looking too good right now is it.

Today, by failing to sign up to #Gonski, the LNP in Queensland has cost you even more.

Over the next 6 years, the ALP #Gonski plan would see an investment of an extra $3.8 billion specifically targeted to Queensland schools.

Let's think about this in terms of teacher numbers.

If we look at the money for #Gonski that would come to QLD in 2019, and it went towards putting more teachers in classrooms to provide further differentiated support and individual learning for students, then that would mean $1.8 billion dollars in teacher numbers.

What does it really mean?

#Gonski - potentially 18 000 new teacher jobs in Queensland.

Yep, that's right, potentially more than 18 000 new teacher positions.

OK, so that might be a lot of wishful thinking.

But even 10% of new the #Gonski funds would mean 1800 new teacher positions to support student learning in our schools.

10% of #Gonski would be 1800 new teacher jobs in Queensland.

More support for our students so that they have individualised attention, and can improve their learning outcomes.

But no, the LNP in Queensland failed to sign up, even after being provided with opportunity after opportunity, timeline extension after timeline extension.

They have cost graduates jobs. All teacher education students should be outraged.

Get out and push for #Gonski. It is your ticket to employment in Queensland as a teacher.

We go into teaching because we want to help students achieve. But we can't do that if we aren't in a classroom. You need employment. #Gonski is needed for Queensland for this to happen.

But only the ALP's real #Gonski will do it.
