Writing a Reading Program

Reading is a priority for my school and I'm working on a program that will operate across Year 7 & 8 to address a range of areas that we've identified.

I'm trying to find the buy-in with the students, parents and the teachers across all subjects.

We are all teachers of reading, but we need to know how to teach reading first.

We need to have the skills to break down 'reading' for our students before we can just assume they can all do it.

It's a marathon, not a sprint. This is a cultural change that we need to enact across the whole school.

At the moment we are looking at silent, sustained reading, guided reading and SRA labs in group rotations.

Any advice? What have you tried? What has worked for you?
